I'M STILL ALIVE!!!!!
Make way for the perma-sabaw queen for I'll drown you all with my updates!!! Hahaha.
I thought I'd go through this semester with an absolute breeze, but obstacles still stayed to test my patience and vigor. I had a relatively light sem, considering all subjects were interesting (read: No Math/Accounting involved). The only computation I've done was during our Industry Study cramming sessions, when we had to analyze the financial status of ABS-CBN Publishing. The rest of the subjects were manageable because 1) they're thought-provoking, hence you get to excel content-wise in papers and recitations; 2) the professors were sympathetic to our stressful lifestyles; and 3) they're BS-able -- going through your notes for three minutes, then you're thrown into the dungeon called graded recitations and orals but you were able to survive because using your charms (yakkk hahaha) matched with quasi-logical insights worked. Haha, craaaazey Atenean life.
There was a point during this sem though, that I gave Frankenstein a run for his money. To date, Those two weeks were the most twisted, puke-worthy hell weeks of my college life because it seemed like all the professors conspired against me. (Self-indulgence, much?) Fine, I may use superlatives here, but it seriously ruined my body clock, my consciousness and even my brain cell count. I was really sabaw in a very, very BAD way. Let me show you a glimpse of those weeks (as I listed everything in my planner):
March 2-7, 2009 Monday - Sci10 Debate (about the GMO directives), Sci10 Oral Exams (Tradeable Pollution Quotas), Communication12 Solo Report (Nazism, Russian capitalism, intellectual snobbery, semiotic agoraphobia --- gahhh) Tuesday - Psychology Project Deadline (about invasion of personal space, which we literally did on the day itself!), History 18 Long Test (Rennaissance, Reformation, Commercial Revolution, Age of Reason, French Revolution) Wednesday - Industry Study Paper Parts 4 & 5 deadline (which were worth 40 pages) Thursday: Edited History paintings (Giotto, Leonardo, etc) Friday: Sci10 Debate Championships (about space explorations), History Project Deadline Saturday: NSTP deadline, COA Awards Night!
March 9-15, 2009 Monday - Sci10 Final Oral Exams! (The Big Bang, which I totally BS-ed but I sucked, sadly), JTA Final School Assignment (which was psychologically draining) Tuesday - Psychology 4th Long Test, Theo Oral Exam Wednesday - Sci10 Research Paper Thursday: Psychology 2 Critical Thinking Papers, and LS Paper editing for 11 hours straight at Tapa King with Jackie and Anton (7pm to 5am, we edited 80 pages! GAAHHH) Friday: Preparation for LS Defense Saturday: LS Defense! Sunday - 3km Fun Run
Number of hours of sleep for 2 weeks: 23 hours?
Who am I to complain, right? I'm not yet a junior (let alone a graduating student), who actually possesses the right to rant all she wants. Oh well, this is my blog, so you really cannot do anything about it, right? *wink* Hehe.
Anywaaaay, for my Junior Term Abroad, I was fortunate enough to qualify for a slot bound to Ecole Superieure de Commerce (ESC) Pau, France (or Pau Business School). Yey! Thank you Inang and Papang for funding my academic escapade. Haha.
The term will start on September and will end at around December 2009. If I'm not mistaken, me and the other 4 JTA-Pau Ateneans will be enrolled in a Global MBA Program -- which means our classmates will be MBA students. What else? Pau is far from the Paris (9 hours travel, according to my roommate Trish) but is located at the France-Spain border. The good part is that people there are actually friendly and nice, unlike their Parisian counterparts.
That's why I have to go back to Butuan to renew my passport (it's about to expire), arrange all documents, and yeah, rest. And I'll help my parents manage the businesses while I'm there. I remember my mom telling me, "Dapat makita namin sa pagmanage mo ng negosyo yung natutunan mo sa Ateneo, huh?" Sus mio.
Because I'll study abroad for four months, Ateneo crafted a condensed curriculum for JTAers for us not to delay graduation. THIS IS THE SAD PART: I have to take the most hellish SOM subjects for less than four months -- Operations Management, Marketing and Finance plus Philosophy and CS on the side. HELL!!! :| Please be kind to me, next sem.
Ok, if you reached this part, Congratulations. Thank you for reading my senseless rants, babbles and whatnot. If you didn't, I won't blame you. Promise. Hehe. :)

Did I ever tell you that Christmas is my hatest part of the year?
Yes, I did. Anyway, when I think of Christmas, I remember streams of bad memories. (No offense, my dear Papa Jesus.) I had to say though that the Christmases I had those years were filled with wonderful Christmas lights, super grand Noche Buenas (like we really have to dress up to the max for it), our huge Christmas tree, and loads of gifts to open.
Well, this year is pretty different. Instead of using the tree, we opted for Christmas decorations in our stairs (it's pretty, though); Christmas lights? Minimal, aside from scrimping on the escalating electric bill, it's also super dangerous; and our Noche Buena is relatively simple right now (we had to move our Japanese food theme to New Year's Eve) -- ham, cakes, pork, chicken (no pasta!). I can really feel the "Panahon na ng Taghirap" everybody's been talking about, and we all have to live through it. I read earlier in CNN.com that we are warming up for the Great Depression Part 2. No wonder I can hear my dad complaining about the swift fall in international rubber prices. I really hope we can all recover from this ordeal.
My point is that despite everything, I seem to like this year's Christmas. Maybe the fact that I didn't/won't cry this season? Or everything's really normal and okay? I don't know. As long as I'm with my family and friends, I'm good <3
So I'm sitting here at our porch just surfing the net -- downloading songs, YMing, web window-shopping (haha), the works. And I'm really contented.
Apart from all these, I had fun last Monday. (Jessa's 18th @ Inland)
I missed my HS classmates. They are my family. How I wish I could rewind to high school days and just be stupid and juvenile and apathetic (even until now, I'm still all that. Haha, joke). But now I'm 18, I really need to be responsible for myself. You just can't slack off now because everything you do bears consequences tomorrow. (Realizations, eh? Haha.)
Ok fine, now I change my mind. My title says "It's Christmas and I See No Christmas Lights". I realized, I do see Christmas lights -- my family, friends, people I miss and love and more. CHEESY, right? But it works that way.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Because I'm so sick of Twilight, I'll alternate it by substituting this to Movie-That-Must-Not-Be-Named, once in a while.
So, I'll just repost my review of THAT movie here via Patricia Custodio's Multiply (she totally echoed the concerns of Myplace 404. Hahaha)
Movie-That-Must-Not-Be-Named is BAKYA.

To repeat the stuff I said to every Twilight movie fanatico I know, the movie had:
a. Third-rate special effects. Nuff said. b. Vampires having 5 layers of foundation in their faces, except for Carlisle (who had 8 layers) c. Dry to no chemistry at all between Kristen and Robert d. Poor transitional scenes e. Inability to convey the story to non Twilight readers f. A protagonist whose acting style does not give justice to Bella's character (Kristen) g. An anticlimactic ending matched with wrong choice of music to back it up (Leave Out All The Rest - Linkin Park), walang impact. h. Kristen's nice hair i. Nice choice of location, which is Portland, Oregon. Plus very realistic setting, which LUCKILY matched the dark feel of the book. h. Cool Vampire Baseball and nice music. j. The exaggerated media hype about this movie, which obviously did not live up to our expectations k. Gwapo Mike Newton l. the automatic mischievous smirk I had on my face every scene that included Jacob Black (he is, uhm, not hot)
Overall: 2 out of 10.
Clearly, a lot of people may dissent from the points I presented because their love for the book plus the untainted idealism of a perfect man/vampire (Edward) override the logical view of the film. I don't resent their obsession at all (fine, I do. But yeah, I've been there before, like from April to August? So, I admit I'm a hypocrite.), but the omnipresence is so sickening. Ok, I must stop now.
Click HERE to read my interpretation of Edward when I first read Twilight! Or my other suggestions as Edward Cullen
You know, we better budge up to the BETTER movie: Harry Potter 6!
GOD!!!!! Amazing! HBP is my fave of the series! :D

Here are the things I (and everybody else) once considered to be freakishly, astoundingly AWESOME, which ended up BAKYA due to its ubiquity and over-uso tendencies: 1) Shutter Shades When Kanye West introduced this thing through his "Stronger" music video, fashionistas and fanaticos rushed to eBay and bought them in every color. I really thought it was cool, inspite of the absence of functionality (It's like Venetian blinds which blocks your sight). And I have to credit my friend Jason for being one of those fashion pioneers -- he was the first Filipino I saw using it, waaaay before the Multiply sellers had a hold of these finds.
And yes, these Shutters were sold like hotcakes for an affordable P300 each, and poof! "Hell, yeah everybody's wearing them!" You go to Trinoma or SM or Gateway, everyone was strutting their shades, much to Jason's and my horror. What's more is that mall stalls have been selling Shutters in heart-shaped frames! What's next? Ribbon-shaped frames?! (Bakya talaga.) Which brings me to my next point...
2) Enormous Blair BowBands Name one mall slash tiangge slash bazaar slash mainstream boutique that does not market this specific BlairBand. NONE. Sadly, my dear friends, only Blair Waldorf (Leighton Meester? Yeah, pwede.) can pull this thing off. Hey, even Serena van der Woodsen looked like a ho-bag when she attempted to wear a Blairband in one episode. I have to admit that everyone (myself included) wowed at Blair's launch of the GIGANTIC red bow headband in Gossip Girl Season 1, because it really looks so cute and nice and pretty and preppy. I seriously thought it was fashionable and avant-gardish (?) for two seconds. Months after that fateful episode came a pop of cheaper and second-rate headbands merchandise in Multiply and the malls (of course). Girls don them at parties, schooldays, mall-hopping trips, just EVERYWHERE.
It was not a bad thing at first, although the large bow stuck to the headside is pretty much "physically unpleasant", to say the least. What really ticked me off was when a group of college and high school girls in their uniforms wore these BowBands in different colors as they march proudly together in the streets of Katipunan. I resisted the urge to go to them and say politely, "Hi, I commend your efforts in emulating Blair in Episode 5 but dearies, you have to face the music --- instead of looking chic and Upper East-y, you girls look like colorful Christmas gifts waiting to be opened." Embarassing confession: I bought a BlairBand once, and the ribbon was small, thankyouverymuch. This was the time when the major malls do not have them yet, but was able to find one at Girlshoppe, with only one of its kind. My gratitude to the Lord for not letting me feel the urge of jumping into the "Big Bow Theory" bandwagon. 3) Colored Skinnies I vividly remember late 2006 when I found at a Fashion Blog that "Colored Skinnies Collection is the Next Big Thing", I actually felt the skepticism within me surge. Skinny jeans were staple garments in every guy and girl's closet (Which was bakya then, in comparison to the late 90s revival of the Bell Bottom jeans , hahaha), and I found the colored versions a bit "Huh?". Next thing I knew, street fashionistas were wearing it nicely and it was then the "Next Big Thing". So, where is the bakya part? It's when you wear this with your closest friends in different colors TOGETHER (Similiar to Number 2 example). Come on, do you guys really have to wear it in ROYGBIV order (Ok, fine -- even if it's not in order). I do think this is one big No-no: You should not look like a rainbow. 4) Twilight Shirts First of all, I never thought of these shirts as cool. It's one thing to love the book, it's another to print shirts and chucks with the cheesiest lines ever ("The Lion fell in love with the Lamb", "I am Mrs Cullen"). Second, need I say more?! BAKYA! (I've said so much about the Twilight's media overhype, so I must stop now.)
5) Boho Skirt paired with Heels

Yes, I get it -- you're an artist. Or a nature-lover. Or a peasant girl. But why do people have to pair their long color-filled Bohemian skirt with stocky heels? Why are we even discussing this?
I am not a fashionista, but I do know the difference between pretty and ugly fashion finds. Anyway, I'll blog more about the Fashion Booboos. (And I hear designer band-aids? Hmm.)
